Good turnout at Rangeley’s annual Apple Festival

Takes a crew of about 20 volunteers two days to put this Festival together and the leadership of RLRLM wants to thank our members for the hours of work that made this another success. Pictured above: Raffle winner Jan Ptak, a frequent Rangeley summer visitor from New York State, and the raffle prize donor, well know local story teller, Jeep Wilcox. Thanks to all of you that make the effort to win as well as support. Thanks, Jeep, for the contribution and Jan we hope you will cherish the win and keep coming back to Rangeley and our Museum. RANGELEY – Saturday, Oct. 1st was a perfect day for Beef Stew lovers: a wet and cool autumn day. Some of you reading this will well know it was a good feed and we thank you for supporting our last activity for 2011 season.  We had a fairly strong turn out for this annual event. Those of you who haven’t been around for the apple cider pressing, the hot cider sipping, the apple strudel eating and seeing the items for sale from the several vendors will have a chance next year when we cook up another batch of beef stew and those biscuits.

As we close the season on 2011 we can say that we have had a very good year with our auction in July as well as the Logging Festival and parade.  All the support we receive from our Rangeley folks, the summer residents, and summer visitors are the major reasons we can say we have had a great go. So whatever part you have played in this season of successes we at the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum are happy to say again thanks for that support.

We will be back in 2012 with some more awesome plans. Parade organizer Linda Sikes tells us that we can top the 2011 parade (which will be a big order but doable). Thoughts and actions are underway for next year’s festival as well.

We have seen our membership grow a great deal this last year but as president I have taken the time to review our current list of members and it seems to be that there are a fair few of our community that most likely would be supportive of our great local logging museum are not members. Knowing how things slip by me where I have all good intentions I thought I’d slip in this reminder that your membership is more valuable than the $10 (single) and $20 (family) as it signals us that there is good support behind our efforts and we have contacts from which we can enlist other forms of support.  A great number of us in this working community are or have been involved with logging.  It would be great to see that reflected in our membership.  We are working toward a series of obtainable goals that will have lasting importance regarding our history with logging, our current practices in logging, our school community and maintaining the great traditions already established by RLRLM.

Call President Ron Haines 864-5551 or Susan Damm Secretary 864-2895 for membership enrollment information. Also write to:  RLRLM  Box 154 Rangeley, ME 04970
