CHESTERVILLE  – The role of the Samuel Linscott family in the town of Chesterville’s history will be the subject of a presentation by Richard Wilde on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m. at the Chesterville Center Meeting House.

Richard Wilde of Farmington, a life-long history buff and descendent of Samuel Linscott, began his geneaology hobby in around 1990, and has gone on to become an expert in the Linscott family. A widespread but tight-knit clan, Linscotts from far and wide gather annually for a Maine reunion. Wilde’s talk complements the 2015 Linscott reunion, which starts earlier in the day.

In 1783 at age 27, Samuel Linscott and his friend, Dummer Sewall, Jr., 19, joined the only previous white settler, Abraham Wyman, in the southern half of Chesterville. Today the Linscott family has dispersed, but their legacy in the town of Chesterville survives, an example being the Center Union Meeting House itself, for which Linscott’s son donated the land in around 1850.

The presentation will contain photos and other interesting items, and Wilde will be available to discuss any possible family connections with the audience. The talk is free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by the Chesterville Center Meeting House and Chesterville Heritage Society.

The Meeting House is located at the corner of the Borough Road and Zion’s Hill Road in Chesterville. FMI call 778-3513.
