The Rangeley Friends of the Arts are thankful to Dan and Carol Perkins for their beautiful gift to support the RFA Student Lessons Program and the scholarship fund.

RANGELEY – In the fall of 2008, a group of Threads Galore Quilt Camp students joined together to create the award winning quilt, “Hunter Blues.” Campers stitched up Hunter Star quilt blocks in shades of indigo blue and cream. Mara Novak, owner of Flying Goose Custom Quilting in Chester, Vermont, assembled the blocks and graced the quilt with her original design, heirloom quality machine quilting in 2009.

“This quilt was created in celebration of, and appreciation for, the marvelous time we’ve all had coming to Rangeley every year for Quilt Camp,” states Ms. Novak She went on to add, “This is a project we could all be part of, and in the end, give something back to Rangeley.” For it was, from the beginning, the intent of the group to gift this quilt to Dan and Carol Perkins, who would decide how to best benefit a group of their choosing in the Rangeley Region.

The quilting friends, from Rangeley and afar, who pieced the blocks for this quilt are Sandra A. Bonomo, Jean Dufour, Judith P. Dunn, Lucy Hickey, Pauline Lang, Jean Libbey, Joanne Marzilli, Mara Novak, Carol Perkins, Helen Reynolds, and Deb Tucker. “Hunter Blues” was shown by the campers at Machine Quilters Expo 2010 and earned a Red Ribbon in the Quilts Among Friends category. Ms. Novak showed “Hunter Blues” at the Vermont Quilt Festival where it was awarded a Red Ribbon in the Wall Hanging category.

Carol and Dan Perkins chose to have this gift benefit the Rangeley Friends of the Arts (RFA) Student Lesson Program and the RFA Rangeley Lakes Regional School Graduating Senior Scholarship. The Rangeley Friends of the Arts has a long history of assisting local youth with extra-curricular dance, voice, art, and instrumental music lessons.
