FARMINGTON – “Life Enrichment Advancing People” is a local non-profit, supporting adults with intellectual disabilities everyday, year round. Right now we are gearing up for our largest fundraising event of the year, our 8th annual golf tournament and silent auction on Aug. 9. The theme of the silent auction this year is “Shop Local” and we are pretty excited about getting to spread the word.

Because we celebrate our communities and appreciate supporting businesses and individuals, it’s a distinct pleasure to recommend the mutually strengthening approach of shopping locally to all of our friends and neighbors. We are thankful that many continue to partner with and support our mission year after year.

We always keep in mind the reason for this event – LEAP supports individuals born with developmental disabilities to achieve life goals. Most individuals with developmental disabilities do not need the support of an agency like LEAP, but a small percentage (2-3 percent), require assistance with communication, mobility and activities of daily living.

Unfortunately, while there is funding for personal supports, there is none for life enrichment activities like enhanced communication training, visiting out-of-town relatives, or wellness programs. This is where fundraising helps individuals with very limited resources to experience joy, hope, and enhanced wellness.

LEAP employs 190+ local people and supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the west central Maine area. Funds that you help us raise by this charitable event support our important daily mission to keep people healthy and bring joy into their lives.

Any local individuals or businesses wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to the silent auction may do so by e-mailing Deelight@leapcommunity.org or calling 778-3466, thanks.
