Local domestic violence task force receives grant

FARMINGTON - The Franklin County Domestic Violence Task Force, in partnership with Safe Voices, has received a $2000 grant from the Maine Community Foundation to create and distribute safety kits for children impacted by domestic violence. This funding will allow the task force to put together kits with age appropriate safety tools for children who may be experiencing domestic violence in their homes.

The kits will include items such as safety planning booklets, worksheets and coloring pages, along with items intended to provide comfort to children in difficult situations, such as stuffed toys. The kits will be made available by the task force and distributed through Safe Voices advocates. Children impacted by domestic violence may feel confused, frightened, and powerless and the goal of this project is to provide a resource that will increase their sense of safety and well-being, and reinforce the message that abusive behavior is not okay and no one deserves to be afraid in their home.

The Franklin County Task Force is a community partnership dedicated to addressing domestic violence in Franklin County, generating resources, educating the community, and advocating to meet the needs of victims of abuse. The task force was started in 2011 and is open to community members. Please call 778-6297 for more information.
