FARMINGTON – Franklin County Children’s Task Force, a nonprofit committed to child abuse and neglect prevention, has teamed up with Paula Norcott of BirthMe, LLC to fill a need that has existed locally for almost five years.
A new drop-in group for nursing moms has started up and will be available weekly on Wednesdays from 10-11 am. The group will meet at Franklin Memorial Hospital in the Chisholm Room. The friendly front desk staff will gladly direct people to the space.
The group is intended to give new, expectant and experienced moms who are breastfeeding a comfortable place to gather while building their nursing network. Snacks will be provided, and Certified Lactation Counselors will be available to answer any questions and to share information and resources.
“Our Maine Families Home Visiting staff are thrilled to be partnering with Paula, who has a deep well of knowledge working to support moms and their babies,” said Franklin County Children’s Task Force executive director, Renee Whitley. “Being a new mom can be very isolating, and an opportunity like this hasn’t existed in quite some time. We expect that once moms become familiar with the group they’ll drop in as often as they can.”
Paula Norcott is a certified lactation counselor, with 16 plus years of experience working with new mothers and their families. A CAPPA certified Child Birth Educator, certified Labor Doula, and Postpartum Doula, Norcott also holds a current child/adult CPR First Aid certification with AHA.
