CHESTERVILLE – An historic canoe adventure undertaken by a Farmington Falls couple will be described and illustrated in a slide show at the Chesterville Center Meeting House on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
In February of 1993, Jim and Lisa Lisius began a journey that would result in the first successful modern canoe trip from the Pacific coast to the Atlantic ocean using no motor power at all. The 1500 mile journey took 15 months, and ended in South Carolina in the springtime of 1994.
The slideshow consists of spectacular action photography by Jim Lisius, who teaches Physics at Mt. Blue High School, and narration by Lisa Lisius, a nurse at the University of Maine Farmington. Together they founded the Penobscot Fifty Mile Canoe Race, lead canoe trips, and teach canoeing and camping annually at the Maine Canoe Symposium.
The presentation is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Chesterville Center Union Meeting House, which is a non-profit community center located at One Borough Road, on the corner with Zion’s Hill Road in Chesterville.
