FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will host a 5K/10K Kids Fun Run on Sunday, April 28 in the downtown to benefit programming that aims to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts. Registration on the day of the event begins at 7:30 a.m., but pre-registration is encouraged.

“This is the second annual 5K/10K race,” said Renee Blanchet, executive director of the agency, “last year we had a fantastic turn out and are looking forward to another great race this year. This year’s proceeds will help provide community education programming in Franklin County including school based violence prevention education in our Bullying Prevention Program.”

Participants can register online at www.active.com, keywords “Run to Prevent Child Abuse,” and sign up for the run of their choice. The pre-registration cost for adults is $20 for the 5K and $30 for the 10K; you may also register on the day of the race for an additional $2 dollars. The first 50 registrants will receive free running shirts; additional running shirts will be available for purchase on the day of the event. For children under 12, the Kids Fun Run is free; children will enjoy a race around the block with ribbons for all. Race fees are tax deductible.

All ages are welcome to participate in the 5K, but no pets, skateboards, rollerblades or bicycles are allowed on the course. T-shirts will be available for all runners at the event, and to keep runners and walkers well hydrated, the course will provide 2 water stations.

Participants of the 5K/10K can pay by credit card online or by cash or check in-person the day of the race with checks made out to the FCCTF.

Registration and check in begin at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the race at the FCCTF office on 113 Church St. Farmington, Me. For more information please contact Renee Blanchet 778-6960 or Brian Whitley, Race Director at 831-1028.
