FARMINGTON – On Aug. 19, Robin’s Flower Pot hosted a fundraiser for the local non-profit Life Enrichment Advancing People. LEAP provides direct support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

According to LEAP’s Executive Director Darryl Wood, Robin’s Flower Pot owner Robin Jordan reached out to him in July with an idea for a garden party, to be held at Robin’s and with the proceeds to benefit LEAP and LEAP’s mission. Together, they organized a number of local vendors who volunteered their time, products and service to ensure all the patrons had a great time. Over the course of four hours on Aug. 19, approximately 100 people enjoyed music, beer and wine tasting, massage, floral arranging and much more. Vendors who volunteered their time included: DJ Taylor Music, Tumbledown Brewing Company, Boothby’s Orchard & Winery, A Wild Fern Winery, and Ken Richards Massage Therapy.

In the end, the event generated almost $1,800 in donations for LEAP. According to Wood, monies raised through fundraising are able to be used differently than monies generated for direct support services.

“We have some flexibility with this money to get creative, and it is really important and appreciated.” Wood said. “For instance, a portion of this revenue will go towards a recreational fund for individuals supported by the agency. Most people do not have any disposable income for things like trips or concerts, and they would be able to apply for help with those expenses through this fund.”

LEAP would like to thank Robin and her staff, who did most of the legwork, and all the vendors who participated in making this a fun and fruitful event.
