State senate candidate to host announcement reception

RANGELEY – Joanne Dunlap, of Rangeley Plantation, invites the public to her candidate announcement reception on Sunday, Jan. 1, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2614 Main Street, Rangeley.

Joanne Dunlap

Dunlap will announce that she is running for the Maine Senate District 18 seat in the November 2012 election. Senate District 18 encompasses all of Franklin County except Jay; the Kennebec County towns of Belgrade, Mt. Vernon, Fayette, Vienna, Wayne and Readfield; and the Somerset County towns of Mercer and Smithfield. Currently, Tom Saviello, R-Wilton, holds the seat.

At the event, people will have the opportunity to sign Dunlap’s nomination papers (to place her name on the ballot as a Democratic candidate) and to donate $5 to help her qualify as a Maine Clean Election candidate.

Even more importantly, Dunlap said, “I would love for people to contribute a bit to the Rangeley Food Pantry Fuel Fund. This is to help those who just can’t heat their homes this winter.” At the reception, there will be a donation box available for this fund.

Joanne Dunlap was born in 1943 in Newburgh, N.Y. “My Dad was serving in the Air Corps and we followed him around the country. My parents were a product of the Great Depression and very careful with money: I was taught to read the right column of the menu first. I was an ordinary kid, got in the usual amount of trouble, fought with my younger sister, hated piano lessons, sold Girl Scout cookies. And I spent every summer of my life at my Grandmother’s in Rangeley. She was my favorite person and Rangeley was, and is, my favorite place,” she stated.

A retired high school teacher, Dunlap keeps busy serving her community and running Mo’s Variety and her sheep farm. Her volunteer work includes serving on the board of the Rangeley Public Library. When pressed, she will admit that she can be seen on stage from time to time, since she’s an unabashed ham. Off the stage, she is a long-time Democrat and is active in the Church of the Good Shepherd.

  1. So I just read her web page with her information,,,,,,,
I always say that you should NEVER IGNORE your first impression because it is based on info gathered before they can SPIN IT. After someone sees how you are reacting,,,they can start manipulating you. This is especially true with politicians and the like ((and NO,,,I dont think everyone does this but,a lot do,,,,,,,so save it)).

I was impressed (not in a good way) how she heavily advertised how she supports all these programs,,goods and services,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY!!!
At the same time attempting to show she believes in solving LOCAL problems.

Here’s an idea from REALITY 101,,,,,,,,,,”””Buy (and SELL) LOCAL GOODS AND SERVICES”””!!!!!!!!
    HELLO!!!

As If there are No Local Goods that will do.
She actually advertises that she SELLS these foreign goods in her store (Mo’s Variety),,,”as if” it’s such an accomplishment to support these goods made and manufactured in ANOTHER COUNTRY far far away. I know for a fact that these same goods are made RIGHT HERE IN MAINE…

Big deal (you may say),,,well the big deal to me is that her resume says a lot about her being a UNION UNION UNION OFFICIAL,,,,

    SO,,,,Here’s a glimpse folks,,,,,LIsten up!!!
“UNIONS dont give a hootie hoot about anyone but the ,,,,,,,”””UNIONS””””.
This ladies comes from that world BIG TIME (IF you can believe what her own website says about her)..
Old Outdated Ideas that haven’t worked in 30 years or more…

Us MAINERS may be SLOW but there aint a thing wrong with our noses, eyes and ears…
We been watching this parade of folks from away try to enlighten us for quite a long while now…
But if it smells, looks and sounds like a “PILE”,,,,
No amount of spin will ever do anything but make a bigger mess…

    Welcome to the campaign Maam,,,,
Oh,,,and Welcome to the Real Maine.

I think I’ll look elsewhere to cast my vote already….

  2. To the person who wrote “I Just Read Her Web Page Link”. Your remarks prompted me to look at this lady’s website. I don’t think we read the same thing. I can not understand what you are talking about. Where does it say anything about unions and goods made in other countries? I don’t know who the lady is, never heard of her, but you must know something about her. I get the impression you don’t like her.

  3. @ Peg I dont like what I read when clicking on the Campaign Website link right at the bottom of the article.
    http://www.joannedunlapforsenate18.com/ <—- THIS ONE (again).
CLICK Their ""ABOUT Joanne Dunlap Link ((((IT"S ALL RIGHT THERE))))))
I know nothing else about her but the first Impression I got from reading this.
    Ummmm,,,,,,,did u actually read it?
I'm guessing u just dont agree with me. Fine but I will copy and past what I read from her own web site for you now.

    (((FROM HER WEBSITE)))
This child's hat is made in Peru. The person who made it was paid a fair(for Peru) price to make it. I sell these at Mo's

I was Vice President of our teacher's union as well as grievance rep

""""""She takes pride in carrying Hats made in PERU!!! I know people in Maine that make HATS…
And She says she was PRESIDENT of her teachers UNION..""""""

Not sure What YOU read but it wasn't her WEBSITE cause THERE IT IS..

Now I take issue with the whole notion of folks from away who come up here with their plus pensions and out of state mentality and try to tell us what's RIGHT.
Thats why I said,,,,,SUPPORT LOCAL by SELLING LOCAL ((not goods made in Peru cause u think it's a cool thing to do)) I think selling local goods made by your neighbors is a COOL thing to do.

Her UNION background is her business BUT she was a UNION OFFICIAL.
Like it or NOT that means certain things that are undeniable.
I happen to disagree with Modern day union principles based on my own experience (most notable that Unions protect ONLY unions and drive the operating costs up for companies). I've worked in both union and non union environments and thats what I base this on.I think unions had there place many years ago but got corrupted by big money and are worse than greedy corporations now.

So PEG,,,,Like it or NOT, I didn't make any of it up.
It's all right there if you READ IT.

BTW,,,I dont necesssarily support anybody she is running against either,,,,
I just simply dont like HER IDEALS.

Nothing personal against her (I'm sure she's a fine person)..
But I cannot vote for someone driven by these principles.

  4. Ok Bulldog Editor,,,

Since Peg accuses me of making something up I dont understand why you wont publish my explaination about WHY she didn’t read the same thing…

I hope you’re NOT censoring or taking sides on issues,,,
No way is it fair to let her have the last word on an incorrect accusation (I didn’t make up anything,,I read it).
Let it Roll and be fair.

Peg just didn’t Click on the About Joanne Dunlap link on her campaign website,,,

That’s why she says she didn’t read what I read…(she didn’t really look).

Is there some problem with me explaining that??

I dont have any problem with Joanne. I only know what she chose to put in her website about herself.
I’m sure she’s a good person but I just happen to disagree with her methods.

GET INFORMED AND VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE OF YOUR CHOICE!!

  5. I see what you base your comments on now. I did not see it last night/ early this morning. So we did not read the same thing. It was my mistake. I was wrong. I apologize. Enough said?
I believe that as a country we have benefited from unions. I have personally had positive dealings with unions. As for products sold from other countries, I understand your point.
