FARMINGTON – Registration is now open for Franklin County Animal Shelter’s annual Strut for Strays 5K Dog Walk/Run fundraiser. The event will be held on  Sunday, Oct. 11 and begins at 9 a.m. at Titcomb Mountain in Farmington.

Participants can pre-register online at fcanimalshelter.org; the entry fee of $20 includes a T-shirt and finisher medal. Registration will also be available the morning of the event at Titcomb.

Canine companions are encouraged but not required at the event. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet and retractable leashes are not allowed. Dogs must also be up to date on their rabies vaccinations.

New to this year is a Canine Costume Contest! Participants can choose one of three categories to be judged in: Individual Canine, Coordinating Canine and Human, and Group Costumes. Prizes will be awarded to first and second places in all categories.

The Franklin County Animal Shelter has been providing care for stray and unwanted animals in the Farmington area since 1974. The primary support for caring for the animals comes from fundraisers like Strut for Strays.
