WILTON – There is something for everyone at this year’s Great Whatever Auction held on Saturday, April 26 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Academy Hill School in Wilton. The annual auction — which as always features a free dessert buffet — is a major fundraiser for the Wilton Scholarship Foundation that provides funds for current and former graduates from Wilton, East Wilton, East Dixfield, Dryden, and Weld.

A special treat on the block, this year, is a baseball autographed by Mike Napoli a member of the 2013 World Series winning Boston Red Sox team. The Great Whatever Auction features new items and gift certificate from local merchants such as the Narrow Gauge Cinema and Hammond Lumber as well as recycled treasures rescued from attics and garages.

For foodies, there are some special auction prizes; Don Tranten of Tranten’s Market contributed a freezer pack featuring 15 pounds of select chicken, beef and pork. Erica Emery of Rustic Roots Farm gave an August share of the community farm that will provide the lucky winner with four weeks of fresh, locally-grown vegetables such fresh greens, tomatoes and squash. Food City donated a brand new Kurieg Coffee Brewer. Gift certificates from Save-a-Lot, Subway, Pizza Hut and Gifford’s Dairy will also be available.

If you’re looking to spruce up yourself for summer, there is a three-month membership for the UMF Health and Fitness Center up for bid. There are also gift certificates from massage therapist Ken Richards and beauty and hairstylist Yvonne Teele of Silver Shears.

For book and art lovers, local children’s author Nancy Prince donated a copy of her book Libby’s Loons, Shirley Lorette also gave a beautiful watercolor print coastal scene and photographer Dave Karkos provided two matted and framed nature photos–one featuring loons and the other a woodpecker on a tree. Sugarwood Gallery also offered six laser-cut, wooden plaques.

So come on over to the Great Whatever Auction and treat yourself to some homemade sweets, bid on some steals and deals, and help local students further their education.
