CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Center Meeting House Ax, Tool and Quilt Show held on June 28 was a highly successful event, according to organizers, despite pouring rain and gusting winds all day.
“We were all impressed by the beautiful juxtaposition of colorful quilts and handsome old tools,” noted Cynthia Stancioff, spokeswoman for the Meeting House board of directors. “We knew it would be an interesting combination, but had no idea it would be this aesthetically rich.”
The show, which drew many couples from near and afar, featured a stunning array of locally-crafted quilts as well as a spectacular selection of axes, logging tools and antique tools of many kinds. An edge tool sharpening demonstration presented by Rob Rogers educated and entertained onlookers, many of whom were offered the opportunity to participate.
Local collector Reggie Rackliff, of Industry, was on hand to explain the history and provenance of his axes, which represented only a small sample from his extensive and growing collection, as well as saws of many varieties. This was his first showing of his axes.
The Chesterville Center Meeting House is maintained by a non-profit organization composed of Chesterville residents. The organization seeks to inspire members of the community to use the building as a common resource for events of all kinds.
