STRONG – Girl Scout Troop #1531 of Strong and Phillips held a dinner to honor local veterans on Nov. 15, 2014.
The girls and adult volunteers prepared a spaghetti dinner, salad, peas, and garlic bread with apple crisp and whipped cream for dessert. Local Veterans and their spouses were invited and in attendance were: 1 Veteran from World War II, 1 Veteran from the Korean War, 7 Veterans of the Vietnam War and 2 Veterans from Desert Storm and more recent conflicts, spouses, and widows.
The Girl Scouts sang 3 songs: “The Star Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful,” and a Girl Scout song called “Make New Friends.” The Cadets and Senior Scouts helped the younger Scouts decorate by drawing pictures thanking the Veterans for their service. We had the dinner to honor the Veterans and their sacrifices.
