UMF invites members of the public to honor retiring president on June 14

FARMINGTON - The University of Maine at Farmington community is pleased to invite members of the public to join them and honored guests at a retirement gathering to honor and celebrate Theodora J. Kalikow’s 18 years of exemplary service as UMF President. The festivities will take place, rain or shine, from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Emery Community Arts Center on the UMF campus.

The University is hoping members of the public will join them in wishing “Theo” a happy retirement, while sharing some light refreshments and fond memories of her dedicated service to UMF, the community and the state of Maine. No gifts please.

Speakers joining the celebration will include: Carlene Tremblay, representing U.S. Senator Susan Collins; Tom Saviello, Maine State Senator; Bonnie Newsom, member of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees; Richard Davis, Farmington town manager; Nancy Marshall, president of the UMF Board of Visitors and Sven Bartholomew, president of the UMF Alumni Council.

Kalikow has served as UMF’s 13th president since 1994. She is the longest-serving UMF president since the Farmington school became a four-year college in 1945 and the third-longest serving chief administrator of the western Maine institution in its nearly 150-year history. A visionary leader, she has put student success first and foremost during her presidency and guided UMF to emerge as a nationally-recognized model of educational effectiveness.
