FARMINGTON – Tax season is here! Let the Western Maine CA$H Coalition help you with your taxes this year. Call (207) 778-7954 or email freetaxprepservice@gmail.com to schedule an appointment to have your taxes done for free until March 16th. Taxes are prepared on the 2nd floor of the Roberts Learning Center (224 Main Street, Farmington) at UMF on Wednesdays 4PM-6PM, Saturdays 9AM- 1PM. If your household made under $55,000 in 2018, IRS- certified volunteers can prepare and file your taxes absolutely free! This will guarantee that you will not only get the best return possible and information on valuable resources in our community.

Here’s a chance to meet some of our IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers:

McKayla Marois: McKayla got certified to prepare taxes as part of UMF’s Financial Literacy Peer Educator program and is very excited about all she’s learned. McKayla is a Junior at UMF and is a Secondary Education and English Major from Oxford, Maine. She will be one of the IRS-certified tax preparers at UMF’s Tacos and Taxes Day (Feb 11th). As a Peer Educator at UMF she has found it useful learning how to prepare taxes and states that she is excited to “gain a lot of beneficial knowledge that can be used in and out of college and have the opportunity to help people.” She feels she has gained budgeting knowledge, has a solid understanding of the value of saving and has even has started investing as part of her involvement with the Peer Educator Program.

Mark Andrews: Mark decided to get involved with the CA$H Coalition because he was wanted a way to give back. He had a friend who was a volunteer tax preparer who said it was a very rewarding experience. Mark has found that to be true and has been an IRS-certified volunteer for the last 4 years. Mark states that “most of the tax filers are very grateful for the service and it’s very gratifying to help people with their taxes, which can be confusing to some people.” When he’s not doing taxes, Mark and his wife like to travel and be outside, at the beach or hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. Mark works as a forester for Weyerhaeuser.

The CA$H Coalition’s mission is directly in line with the goals of United Way by having community members volunteer their resources and time to help other members of the Franklin and Northern Androscoggin communities learn more about financial security and promoting financial education.
