FARMINGTON – The MaineHealth Child Health program recently announced that Franklin Health Pediatrics has been recognized for achieving a “Gold” rating for childhood immunizations for FY17 according to the standards outlined in the MaineHealth Childhood Immunizations Program’s Clinical Improvement Plan.

In acknowledgment of this success, Franklin Health Pediatrics has received a plaque in recognition of its achievement.

Improving childhood immunization rates is one of ten health priorities for the MaineHealth system of which Franklin Memorial Hospital is a member. Medical practices that earn this distinction demonstrate their commitment to keeping Maine’s children healthy by immunizing them on time according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended immunization schedule.

Practice ratings are based on the average number of CDC benchmarks met per month for each of the 2- and 13-year old vaccines. Specifically, the metrics include: 1) the percentage of children up-to-date on 10 vaccines by age 2 years; 2) the percentage of adolescents up-to-date on meningococcal and Tdap/Td vaccines by age 13 years; and 3) the percentage of adolescents by gender up-to-date on HPV vaccine by 13 years.

“Less than optimal vaccination rates impact the health of children through disease outbreaks, missed school, hospitalizations, and in some cases, death,” said Dr. Gabriel Civiello, lead physician at Franklin Health Pediatrics. “Our clinicians make immunizations a personal and professional priority to ensure that parents have access to scientifically accurate information about vaccines so they can make well informed immunization decisions for themselves and their children.”

Franklin Health Pediatrics is located in the Franklin Health Medical Arts Center on the FMH campus. Its providers include: Nicole Donahue, CPNP; Erika Schumacher, MD; Gabriel Civiello, MD, FAAP; Ryan Whitt, MD; Tanya Lever, MSN, CPNP-PC; and Christine Christie, LCSW.

  1. What percentage of your patients are chronically ill? You know, asthma, allergies, eczema, ear infections, arthritis, autistic, ADD, ADHD, seizures, leukemia or diabetes? The unvaccinated children do not experience any of these. Wake up and see what you are doing to children. From a grandmother of 3, 2 with multiple vaccine injuries, including autism and 1 that is unvaccinated and perfectly healthy.

  2. The parents have a choice to have the childhood immunizations or not for their child.
Who are we to judge their decisions to or not to. We live in America.

  3. I began questioning vaccines three years ago. I’ve read up on them daily since then. I no longer believe any of the narratives like vaccines are safe and effective or they saved us from polio and smallpox. None of that is actually true! Vaccines serve the purpose of making money for their makers first by the sale of the vaccine, second by creating a sicker kid. Not just autism but asthma, allergies, autoimmune diseases, ear infections, flu, ADHD, epilepsy, learning disabilities and more. And the bonuses your pediatrician makes are usually half their annual income. Stay away from vaccines!

  4. Please please do your research. You cannot be educated by pharma reps, or science studies funded by pharma, or even from the CDC(who owns patents and has a huge conflict of interest – so much so that the CDC chief just had to remove herself). We know you believe you are doing this for the good of society but you have to go beyond the surface of information. Vaccines are indoctrinated into our culture, we all believed in them at one point. We all were pro vax at one point. Do your research (from good sources)— please!!

  5. I have to say as both a mother and ICU nurse, It is incredibly refreshing & hopeful to read the comments to this article that is surely kicking back lots of money to big Pharma at the expense of our children’s health. I urge everyone to do their own research, and pay close attention to whom is funding the study.. If any doctor, healthcare provider, or doctor does not agree with that, then they clearly have not done enough of their own research yet, or could be getting something out of “meeting the quota.”

Education & choice is essential for freedom. God bless the America our patriots fought for.

  6. i just read an article about cdc admitting the epidemic is caused by flu vaccines are causing virus to mutate and become more deadly! cdc admitted themselves

  7. Congratulations to Franklin Health Pediatrics for their hard work protecting the children and community of Franklin County. We are lucky to live in a community with a group so committed to the health of our children. It saddens me to read the responses above; quite simply, vaccines are responsible for saving the lives of thousands of people a year. Vaccinating your children is a choice that protects not only your children, but also the others in your community. Thank you to the providers at Franklin Health Pediatrics, as well as to all of the responsible, community-minded parents who have made the (very wise) choice to protect all of us by immunizing their children. 8. Congratulations, Franklin Health Pediatrics! As a proud mother of a vaccinated boy who is perfectly healthy, I can’t thank you enough for all the hard work you put into keeping our community of little humans healthy. It’s unclear to me how you can, in the face of facts (those darn facts!), believe that vaccinations have not done their part to all but eradicate deadly diseases that historically took lives by the thousands each year. When was the last time you heard of someone being infected or dying of polio? You don’t anymore. Why, you ask? Because we vaccinated for it.

  9. While I absolutely respect a parents right to decide what they want for their child, I am old enough to have taken care of children who were devastatingly effected by the very diseases these vaccines prevent.
I can remember their faces, their families..the struggles they suffered taking care of a previously healthy child now bedridden by the effects of meningitis caused by H. flu or pneumococcus. Prior to these ( and other immunizations) I routinely performed spinal taps on infants and children to diagnose and treat such diseases as meningitis. Since the addition of these vaccines it has been over decade since I have seen the devastating effects of these illnesses and I am BLESSED to never have seen a case of polio in the United States.
I do not get monetary bonuses from anyone for advocating for vaccination..the only bonus I get is the reassurance that my vaccinated patient is very very unlikely to contract a disease that is preventable and potentially devastating.
I take care of many families who choose not to vaccinate their children. The conversations we have are always respectful and honor each of our points of view. It would be nice if the comments here could continue in the spirit of a respectful dialogue free from unfounded accusations so that we can more deeply understand and learn from each other.

  10. I agree with the doctor on this one. Science is science, fact is fact, and the bulk of legitimate scientific research and historical fact shows the tremendous positive benefit of vaccinations. There would be countless more deaths and epidemics without them. Thank you to Franklin Memorial Hospital for keeping our kids and community healthy, and staying in the know on valid scientific research to support valid health protocols. Hope everyone else can open their minds as they themselves are suggesting, and stop seeing only fear, conspiracy and projection. Big pharmaceutical companies surely are making a lot of money on vaccinations, because they are so valuable! You might not like that, but that does not mean it’s the wrong health decision. It is completely false and fear-mongering to say that doctors and medical care providers who recommend vaccinations are being paid off. They are not. Vaccinations are a known, researched, and historically proven best practice for protecting children and adults from certain diseases.

  11. Congratulations Franklin Health Pediatrics! Both my daughters were fully vaccinated. While I respect a parents right to decide, I never questioned it because as a Peace Corps Volunteer I saw first hand what tragedies can come from not vaccinating a child. Ousmane was my six-year old ‘little brother’ with a bright brown eyes and a smile that would light up a room. Too often, however, I saw a sadness come over Ousmane when the other kids would go off to run and play, kick around a soccer ball, or be the first to get a treat fresh from the kitchen. Ousmane was struck by polio, a disease we seldom see or hear of in the US. Vaccinations of against horrible diseases like polio are critical to our public health and the happiness of our children. Thank you to the staff of Franklin Health Pediatrics and all the health workers who care for our children.

  12. if you’re worried about children becoming “injured” by vaccines, you really haven’t done your “research.” in fact,
