FARMINGTON – The Healthy Community Coalition (HCC) is sponsoring summer activities for school-aged youth in Franklin County through the Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grant. Programs are offered free of charge through grant funding for students in RSU 9, MSAD 58 and Stratton schools. Several area partners have been engaged to offer a variety of physical activity opportunities throughout Franklin County.

The Carrabassett Valley Recreation Department is offering two mountain bike camps at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center with bikes available for use. Participants learn about tuning a bike, braking, balance, uphill single track riding, safety, nature, fitness, pedal smarts, and healthy eating for energy. To register, call the Carrabassett Valley Recreation Department at 237-5566. When registering, indicate if the child will need equipment or is bringing his own.

July 18-22: Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., for those entering grades 6-12; and
July 25-29: Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m., for those entering grades 6-12.

The Strong School is hosting a summer program that will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., July 12-28 for kids entering grades 1-5. Field trips to area attractions on Thursday are being planned. Children attending this program receive a complimentary breakfast and lunch through the Summer Meals Program.

Mt. Abram High School is offering an adventure program for high school students on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from July 11-27. This is a partnership with the GEAR UP program and students will be taking a three-day trip to Jackman the last week of the program. Registration information was distributed before the school’s summer break. To register, call 347-9515.

The Kingfield’s Recreation Department is offering summer programming on: June 28, 29, 30, July 5, 6, 7 and August 23, 24, 25. Contact the Recreation Department for more information about programming at 265-4637.
