JAY – The director of operations for Polycor has advised town officials that they will be doing some blasting at the North Jay quarry on Thursday, May 14. Residents should expect six blasts starting at around 8:30 a.m. and every hour until around 2:30 p.m.

Polycor is blasting as part of preparing the site and the road. Polycor’s director Kevin Jack explained earlier this is necessary to the development of the quarry.

The blasting company Polycor is contracting with has received state permits for the blasting.

Earlier this year, Polycor Inc., a Canadian company proposing the North Jay White Project development, intends to reactivate the quarry and curbing plant this year, located off the Old Jay Hill Road. The project’s ultimate approval to become fully operational will likely rest with the state’s Department of Environmental Protection.

Polycor Inc., representatives told the Board of Selectpersons at their Feb. 9 meeting that the $4 million project is expected to create 20 jobs in the short term, as well as another 20 jobs indirectly.
