JAY – The North Jay Water District has put out a boil-water order, effective once a break in a waterline on Main Street is fixed and the water comes back on. The order will run until further notice.

According to district treasurer Ronald Moreau, a crew is currently working on repairing the break and hopes to have the water back on soon.

Impacted areas include:  Main Street (South) from NEPW Warehouse, Look Brook Circle, Route 17, Old Jay Hill Road, Purrington Road and Mountain View.

Once water returns, the district is required to bring samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E.coli and coliform bacteria. The district will make an announcement when customers can stop boiling water.

Per Superintendent Mike Wells, impacted customers should boil water for one minute. That includes water that they plan to drink, use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes. After the water is boiled, it can be put in the refrigerator.
