Boil order issued in Jay

1 min read

JAY – The Jay Village Water District has put out a boil-water order until further notice due to a break in a waterline on Stone Street.

The break occurred last evening shortly after 10 p.m. A crew worked through the night to repair the line break, and the water is now back on. The district is now required to test samples of the water at a laboratory in Augusta for E.coli and coliform bacteria. Once those tests come back, the district will announce that customers can stop boiling water.

Only the customers who lost water need to boil it. Per Superintendent Mike Wells, affected customers should boil water for one minute. That includes water that they plan to drink, use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes. After the water is boiled, it can be put in the refrigerator.

  1. If you live on Jay Hill, you need to boil your water. If you’re not sure if you were affected, call the water district – the phone numbers are on their website.
