JAY – Jay Village Water District has lifted the boil water order for customers who were affected by the water break Friday on Smith Avenue.

Water samples were tested at a lab in Augusta and determined safe for public consumption, said Ronald J. Moreau, the district’s treasurer on Monday.

“The water district wishes to express their thanks to all who were inconvenienced by this incident,” he said in an email. “With special thanks to all who dedicated their time and talents to getting the word out and repairing the damage to the system.”

A large water main break on the Smith Avenue line was reported at 8:30 Friday morning. Crews went right to work repairing the aging line. Over the weekend those affected customers boiled water 1 minute or more for consumption until word was received by the state’s lab that the water is safe to drink today.

The Smith Avenue waterlines experienced breaks last fall. Voters approved a municipal budget for this year that includes fixing the old lines.
