CHESTERVILLE – A garage was damaged on Tuesday morning after a fire started to spread near a wood stove.
Four fire departments assisted at the scene to quickly contain and extinguish the blaze that started near a wood stove in a garage at the Hupper residence on Zion’s Hill Road. Fire crews were called at 9:50 a.m. this morning.
Chesterville Fire Chief Edward Hastings IV said the damage was confined to around the wood stove. He estimated the building’s damage at $5,000.
The Chesterville Fire Department was assisted by the towns of Farmington, New Sharon and Wilton. Neighboring mutual aid towns were turned back after the fire was quickly knocked down.
The single bay garage was a distance from the home.
Another report of a structure fire, called in nearly 12 hours before on Monday night at 10:30 p.m., turned out to be a faulty furnace.
Chesterville and several surrounding mutual aid departments were called to 192 Hilltop Road, a small road off Egypt Pond Road, after smoke was reported coming from the attic.
“They thought it was a fire, but it was a malfunctioning furnace,” Hastings said.
I am glad no one was hurt! From your neighbor in the woods!
There’s no mention however of the guy who actually SAVED the garage! Good job Dave ODonnell!!!!
It was Lt. Thom Walker who saved all.
Yes, Dave O’Donnell’s quick action after the discovery of the fire greatly reduced the amount of damage. Sorry the article didn’t mention his name – though certainly he deserves a pat on the back for doing an awesome job!
Thanks to everyone who helped with this fire and it was certainly a job well done by all.
