Franklin County Sheriff’s Department weekly report for July 5 – July 12:

07/05/2013 Deputy Chris Rhinhart responded to Cranberry Peak Apartments in Eustis regarding a trespassing complaint.

07/05/2013 Deputy Sandy Burke responded to High Street in Kingfield just after midnight to a report of either gunshots being fired or fireworks going off.

07/05/2013 Deputy Burke responded to High Street in Kingfield reference a disturbance.

07/05/2013 Corporal Nate Reid and Deputy Nick Zecher responded to Phillips regarding a report of a suicidal male.

07/05/2013 Corporal Nate Bean was conducting building checks in Stratton at midnight when he saw a vehicle pull into the north side of the CMP building with its headlights off. Bean identified the driver who had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was summonsed.

07/05/2013 Deputy Rhinhart conducted a security foot patrol of Main Street in Phillips during the evening.

07/05/2013 Chief Deputy Steve Lowell investigated a car/moose accident which occurred on Walden flats in Sandy River Plantation.

07/06/2013 Deputy Nick Zecher responded to a car/deer crash which occurred on Route 4 in Avon just north of the Avon Mall. There were no injuries to the driver.

07/06/2013 Deputy Zecher responded to Avon Valley Road in Avon regarding an ongoing harassment complaint.

07/06/2013 Deputy Rhinhart assisted CVPD with a car/deer accident on Route 27.

07/06/2013 Deputy Matthew Brann responded to the Ridge Road in Chesterville to back up State Police with a report a person being held against their will, complaint was unfounded.

07/06/2013 Corporal Bean found and unsecure door at the Stratton Town office. Bean secured the building.

07/06/2013 Deputy Zecher responded to the Appalachian Trail in Wyman Township regarding a complaint from a female hiker. The complainant stated that there was a strange man who goes by the name of Richard (nickname brown blazer) had been acting strange. He has been leaving threatening messages on the AT trail recording logs. No one person has been targeted, however, she wanted to report it to law enforcement. A check of the trail heads did not reveal any vehicles that came close to the alleged offender’s first name. Notification has been made throughout the hiking community.

07/07/2013 Corporal Bean and Deputy Matthew Brann responded to Taylor Hill Road in New Vineyard for a report of a suicidal male.

07/07/2013 Deputy Zecher responded to West Side Road in Weld reference a burglary complaint. Copper pipe had been removed.

07/08/2013 Deputy Brann responded to a car crash located on the Rand Road in Industry. It was reported that the driver rolled the vehicle over at 1:30 a.m. after trying to avoid a deer. No injuries reported.

07/08/2013 Deputy Zecher responded to a report of a car crash in Perkins Twp. where 18-year-old female driver lost control in the S-turns and rolled the car over, due to excessive speed for the conditions of the road, the officer said.

07/08/2013 Deputy Zecher conducted a welfare check at West Freeman Road in Strong.

07/09/2013 Lt. Rackliffe, Corporal Chris Chase and Deputy Colton Sleaster responded to Farmington to assist Farmington police with a report of a fight involving multiple people.

07/09/2013 Corporal Chase is investigating a case where the complainant thinks she may have purchased a car that was stolen. The person she bought the car from cannot provide a certificate of title.

07/09/2013 Corporal Bean, Deputy Brann responded to Weld regarding a missing person complaint. A female walked away without telling boyfriend where she was going when he started to say bad things about her mother. Deputy Brann found the girl walking and escorted her to Farmington.

07/09/2013 Corporal Chase and Deputy Sleaster responded to Main Street in Kingfield for a 911 hang-up complaint. There were no issues at the residence, juveniles were present.

07/09/2013 Deputy Brann responded to a report of a car off the side of the Pope Road in Chesterville. No reportable damage.

07/09/2013 Corporal Bean arrested David Paquette, 35, on a warrant.

07/09/2013 Deputy Rhinhart responded to the Starks Road in New Sharon for a report of a burglary. Two anvils were removed from the basement of an unoccupied residence. The entrance was not secured.

07/09/2013 Deputy Brann stopped a car for a moving violation, discovered scheduled drugs inside the vehicle and charged the driver with possession.

07/09/2013 Deputy Burke assisted Wilton Police with a missing elderly person complaint.

07/10/2013 Deputy Burke responded to the George Thomas Road in New Sharon regarding a report of theft.

07/10/2013 Deputy Burke responded to Mercer Road in New Sharon reference a report of a missing 14-year-old.

07/10/2013 Corporal Nathan Reid responded to a report of a scam in Avon. The complainant stated that an unknown person called him accusing him of backing into their car; however that accuser did not leave his name.

07/10/2013 Corporal Bean and Deputy Brann responded to the Stewart Road in New Vineyard for a welfare check. A real estate agent called to report he had not heard from the occupants for some time. Upon arrival, the deputies discovered there was evidence that somebody was still occupying the residence.

07/10/2013 Deputy Brann responded to Anson Valley Road in New Vineyard reference a civil complaint.

07/10/2013 Corporal Bean found an open door at a business in New Sharon. Owners were informed.

07/10/2013 Corporal Bean assisted Rangeley police with his K-9, Diesel at the scene of a burglary on Main Street.

07/11/2013 Corporal Chase responded to Zion’s Hill road in Chesterville for a trespass complaint.

07/11/2013 Detective Stephen Charles is investigating a report of an assault on Ridge Road in Chesterville.

07/11/2013 Deputy Burke stopped a car for speeding on the Pope Road in Chesterville; during the stop he discovered scheduled drugs and syringes. The driver had a suspended license, was on probation, had unpaid fines and was subject to search and test.

07/11/2013 Deputy Brann responded to the Tripp Road in Chesterville regarding a complaint of gunshots being heard behind the complainant’s residence.

07/11/2013 Deputy Rhinhart responded to Dutch Gap Road in Chesterville for a motion alarm. It was caused by owner error.

07/11/2013 Deputy Brann responded to a report of an erratic driver driving on Route 27 in New Sharon.

07/11/2013 Deputy Rhinhart investigated a harassment complaint in Kingfield.

07/11/2013 Deputy Brann responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle located off the side of the road on the Weeks Mills Road in New Sharon. This vehicle was stolen out of Farmington.

07/11/2013 Corporal Chase provided a security escort to members of an Allstate Insurance team to a residence on the Weeks Mills Road.

07/11/2013 Deputy Brann responded to a report of a road rage incident in New Sharon. The actual event occurred on Route 2 in Norridgewock. Deputy Brann took statements and has turned the case over to Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

07/11/2013 Deputy Brann and Detective Charles responded to the Mercer Road in New Sharon for a reported domestic violence complaint.

07/12/2013 Corporal Reid responded to the Valley Road in Chesterville for a 911 hang-up complaint. The call was placed accidentally.

07/12/2013 Deputy Brann is investigating a report of a break-in located on the Weeks Mills Road in New Sharon.

Deputies conducted 45 building checks during this reporting period and found three of them to be unsecured buildings.

  1. Regarding the threatening messages left at a trailhead, everyone please be very careful and very alert. There are too many unsolved events around hiking trails in northern New England. Maybe just a crank but if you see or experience anything that feels strange or threatening, please report it to authorities and let other hikers know. Thank you.

  2. Any other word or incident with the weird AT guy, especially with the missing AT hiker, not being seen for one week.
