Franklin County Sheriff’s Department weekly report for Aug. 16 – Aug. 23:

08/16/2013 Deputy Matthew Brann removed an intoxicated person from the middle of the road on Route 4 during the Phillips Old Home Days event.

08/16/2013 Deputy Brann was involved with a car vs. moose accident on the Salem road in Phillips. There was minor damage to the police interceptor; the moose ran off into the woods unharmed.

08/16/2013 Deputy Chris Rhinhart responded to Bemis Road in Rangeley Plt reference a report of trespassing.

08/17/2013 Deputy Brann assisted Farmington Police with an OUI arrest.

08/18/2013 Deputy Nick Zecher stopped a motor vehicle on the Starks Road in New Sharon for a motor vehicle violation and charged the passenger with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of scheduled drugs.

08/18/2013 Deputy Brann conducted a welfare check on Pleasant Cove Drive in New Vineyard.

08/18/2013 Deputy Brann investigated a report of domestic assault in Strong.

08/19/2013 Deputy Zecher summonsed a driver for criminal speed 64/25 on the Starks Road in New Sharon.

08/20/2013 Deputy Colt Sleaster responded to Carthage regarding a theft complaint. The complainant claimed that someone had taken scrap metal out of his gravel pit which is located off the Basin Road.

08/20/2013 Deputy Rhinhart responded to a harassment complaint in Carthage.

8/20/2013 Deputy Sandy Burke responded to the Swan Road in New Sharon regarding a possible tampering with a victim complaint.

08/21/2013 Deputy Burke responded to Lambert Hill Road in Strong, for a possible violation of a PFA.

08/21/2013 Corporal Chris Chase responded to Farmington Falls road in New Sharon for a report of a burglary. Todd Olsen who owns a car body shop at that location reported that person(s) unknown had stolen the driver’s side front and rear doors, front bumper cover and tailgate to a 2005 dodge pickup. The materials actually belong to Michael Distefano of Farmington. The involved parties were specifically targeting the body parts because valuable tools in the shop were not touched. The items were discovered missing at approximately 830 a.m. Wednesday and were last seen 24 hours before.

08/21/2013 Deputy Burke responded to the River Road in Avon regarding suspicious activity at an abandoned residence. Upon arrival Burke discovered that contractors were at the house at the owners request removing drywall from the inside.

08/21/2013 Deputy Sleaster responded to Sanborn Hill Road in Chesterville regarding a dispute between neighbors, one neighbors goats got loose and traveled onto the property of another.

08/21/2013 Detectives from Franklin County Sheriff’s Dept. received information from Probation Officer Troy Sterry that a man who had recently been released from prison from New Hampshire for murder and burglary was currently staying at a residence located on the Horseshoe Pond Road in Chesterville.  At issue is that the man was reportedly there illegally and if so was in violation of his condition of parole. Lt. David St. Laurent and Det. Stephen Charles and Officer Sterry went to the residence, found the man and took him into custody without incident. Barry Brown, 50, was charged with violation of interstate compact for adult supervision, a Class D crime.

08/21/2013 Corporal Chase and Sheriff Scott Nichols responded to the Ridge Road in Chesterville for a three-car accident which also downed power lines and left over 700 Chesterville residents without power for a period of time until a new pole could be installed. The driver of the car which hit the pole was summonsed for distracted driving. The two cars that were following each sustained between $1,500 to $2,000 in body damage from the telephone pole and wire crashing down upon them. The drivers remained inside their vehicles until CMP arrived on the scene to verify that the wires were shut down.  Nobody was injured as a result of the accident.

08/21/2013 Deputy Chase responded to Foster Hill Road in Freeman Twp. regarding a parental rights issue.

08/21/2013 Deputy Sleaster responded to Intervale Road in New Sharon for a reported theft of rings.

08/21/2013 Deputy Sleaster investigated a harassment complaint on Mile Hill Road in New Sharon. While Deputy Sleaster was investigating the complaint he discovered a person at the scene who was wanted on arrest warrants, Crystal Humiston, 45, was arrested on three warrants.

08/21/2013 Deputies Brann and Walter Fails discovered an open door at the Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon.

08/21/2013 Deputy Sleaster responded to a 911 hang-up complaint on the Barker Road in New Vineyard. Further investigation revealed it was a misdial.

08/22/2013 Detective Stephen Charles and Corporal Chase conducted a bail check on a person who lives on the Cohoon Road in Chesterville.

08/22/2013 Deputy Brann responded to Horseshoe Pond Road in Chesterville. The complainant called to report that an unknown male was hiding in the woods on her property; subject was described having dark brown hair and a mustache as wearing a gray T-shirt with white writing on it and black jeans. Deputy Rhinhart joined Deputy Brann to conduct the search however the person who was not located. All neighbors in the area were made aware of the incident.

08/22/2013 Lt. St. Laurent assisted Farmington PD with and interview.

08/22/2013 Deputy Brann responded to Cape Cod Hill road in New Sharon regarding a suspicious person.

08/22/2013 Deputy Rhinhart responded to the New Vineyard Road in New Vineyard regarding a possible violation of court order.

08/22/2013 Detective Steve Charles and Chief Deputy Steve Lowell served a PFA on a subject in Strong.

08/23/2013 Deputy Brann responded to Chesterville Hill Road in Chesterville for a 911 hang-up that occurred at 2:55 a.m. Further investigation revealed that it was a phone issue; everybody was asleep upon the deputy’s arrival.

08/23/2013 Corporal Chase and Deputy Burke responded to the Carthage Road in Carthage for a threatening complaint.

Deputies conducted 58 building checks during this reporting period and found two unsecure doors.

  1. Ooo… Where is the 25 mph on the Starks rd? I don’t think I knew it was there, I thought it was 45 mph through there. Maybe there is a sign and just can’t picture it?

  2. To me: as soon as you pull onto the starks rd its 25 mph for like a half mile then it switches to 45. Be cautious of it, zecher is often camping out by imeldas.
