Franklin County Sheriff’s Department weekly report for Aug. 22 – 29, 2014

8/23/2014 Sheriff Scott Nichols investigated a burglary that occurred at a camp located on Rt. 27 in Alder Stream Twp. Sometime between April and August persons entered the camp, used some of its facilities and then when they left, stole two bear heads, some flashlights and two camp chairs.

8/23/2014 Deputy Matt Brann responded to Church Street in New Vineyard regarding a civil issue.

8/23/2014 Deputy Colt Bernhardt investigated a theft of an ATV from West Side Road in Carthage. Complainant reported that a blue 2005 Yamaha Blaster 200 4 wheeler was taken from the front yard sometime overnight between 9 pm and 1 am.

8/23/2014 Deputy Sandy Burke responded to Industry Road in New Sharon regarding suspicious activity. The homeowner thought somebody was banging on her house. Nothing was found.

8/24/2014 Deputy Brann and Bernhardt investigated an assault complaint at Gull Pond Road in Dallas Plt.

8/24/2014 Deputy Burke, while on patrol, struck a moose on Route 27 in Dallas Plt. No injuries, moose died at the scene. State Police investigated the crash.

8/24/2014 Deputy Clement arrested Anthony Smith on a warrant.

8/24/2014 Deputy Brann assisted New London, N.H. police with a phone harassment complaint.

8/25/2014 Chief Deputy Steve Lowell and Cpl. Nate Bean assisted Rangeley police with a burglary at the Loony Bin in Rangeley. Bean and K-9 Diesel conducted a track for the police.

8/25/2014 Deputy Bernhardt removed three young people from the middle of the road on the Lucy Knowles Road in Chesterville.

8/25/2014 Deputy Brann investigated a civil complaint on Parlin Road in Phillips.

8/26/2014 Deputy Andrew Morgan investigated a scam involving Craig’s List.

8/26/2014 Chief Deputy Lowell and Lt. David Rackliffe assisted Farmington police with an unattended death.

8/26/2014 Deputy Kevin Hartley investigated a car vs. deer accident on Route 27 in Jim Pond Twp.

8/26/2014 Deputy Hartley investigated a noise complaint on Lovejoy Road in Salem Twp. Complainant stated that her neighbor was using a backhoe at 6:30 a.m.

8/26/2014 Deputy Hartley investigated a suspicious person at Maine Wood Turning in New Vineyard.

8/26/2014 Deputy Hartley responded to a 911 hang-up compliant on Granite Lane in Eustis; it was a misdial.

8/27/2014 Cpl. Christopher Chase and K-9 Abbie assisted State Police with their request for a K-9 on Zion’s Hill Road in Chesterville.

8/27/2014 Cpl. Chase and K-9 Abbie assisted State Police with their request for a K-9 on Lucy Knowles Road in Chesterville.

8/28/2014 Deputy Bernhardt stopped a vehicle in Chesterville for speeding, as a result of the stop, an Auburn woman was charged with possession of Schedule Z drugs. Cpl.Chase assisted with K-9 Abbie.

8/28/2014 Cpl. Nate Reid investigated a report of theft of drugs from Cranberry Peak Apartments in Stratton.

8/28/2014 Cpl. Reid responded to West Kingfield Road in Kingfield regarding an “out-of-control” 14-year-old female.

8/28/2014 Deputy Morgan investigated a bad check compliant at the “Local Bull” convenience store in Phillips.

8/28/2014 Deputy Morgan conducted a traffic stop on Route 4 in Phillips. As a result of the stop, Stephen Haines was arrested for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

8/29/2014 Deputy Nicholas Zecher assisted a stranded motorist in Coplin Plt.

8/29/2014 Deputy Morgan was overseeing a property exchange on Parlin Road in Phillips, while there he observed a male arrive at the scene driving with a suspended license. The male was charged with OAS.

Deputies conducted 68 building checks during this time period, all were secure.

  1. I couldn’t imagine calling the sheriff’s department to report someone using a backhoe at 6.30 am. Some people need lives

  4. I would imagine there is a history that goes along with the backhoe call..
    Sometimes it’s best to get police involved.
