FARMINGTON – A 19-year-old man was arrested after police say he was speeding 34 miles per hour over the speed limit on Wilton Road Sunday afternoon.

Farmington Officer Darin Gilbert was working on a directed patrol speed detail near Hight Chevrolet on Wilton Road when he spotted a vehicle he suspected was traveling faster than the speed limit allows.

He pointed a radar gun at the Subaru and reportedly got a speed reading of 74 miles per hour in a section of the Wilton Road where the speed limit is 40 miles per hour.

Gilbert pulled the Subaru over 1:40 p.m. at Irving’s Big Stop. While speaking with the driver, Ethan Bruns of Gray, Gilbert reported he saw a “micro” smoking device and a plastic bag alleged to contain marijuana residue.

Bruns was arrested on a charge of criminal speeding in an allegation he was exceeding the speed limit by more 30 miles per hour, possession of drug paraphernalia and a traffic summons for failing to provide proof of insurance.

Bruns was transported to the Franklin County Detention Center. Bail was set at $3,000 unsecured and he was released later on Sunday. A court date of Sept. 2 was scheduled.

The Farmington Police Department was awarded a Speed Enforcement Grant totaling $10,000 from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety in January. The grant, which ends in September, provides additional work details that focus specifically on enforcement of speed-related traffic violations.

  1. Nathan, what color was he? It said he was from Grey, not that he was grey.

  2. Pretty well done, Nathan

Work in your delivery a bit and you’ll soon be ready for the big time!

  3. Maybe he was “gray” because he has the “blues”! From the men in blue?
