Jay boil-water order in effect

1 min read

JAY – The Jay Village Water District has put out a boil-water order until further notice that will be effective once a break in a waterline on Main Street, in the Jay Hill area, is fixed and the water comes back on.

There was a major break in the water line on Saturday. A crew is working to repair the break and restore water.

Only the customers who lost water need to boil it. This may include customers on Jay Hill, Chick A Dee Ave, Allen Street, Lambert Street and the Jay Plaza, according to water district board member Ronald J. Moreau.

Once water returns, the district is required to bring samples to a laboratory in Augusta to be tested for E.coli and coliform bacteria. The district will make an announcement when customers can stop boiling water.

Per Superintendent Mike Wells, affected customers should boil water for one minute. That includes water that they plan to drink, use to brush their teeth and make ice cubes. After the water is boiled, it can be put in the refrigerator.

District representatives were trying to get the word out about the boil-water order Saturday.
