Jay Village Water District: Boil water order lifted

JAY – On Wednesday afternoon, the Jay Village Water District lifted the boil water order for customers who were affected by the water break last Friday on Smith Avenue.

Water samples were tested at a lab in Augusta and determined safe for public consumption, said Ronald J. Moreau, district treasurer.

“The water district wishes to express their thanks to all who were inconvenienced by this incident,” he said in the announcment. “With special thanks to all who dedicated their time and talents to getting the word out and repairing the damage to the system.”

The waterlines are aging and at least 60 years old, Moreau noted earlier. There have been many breaks in lines in the Smith Avenue area. These lines are slated to be replaced this fall as part of a larger 2015 infrastructure upgrade project.
