JAY – Police are asking the public’s help in regards to a motor vehicle crash that occurred in North Jay on Sept. 22, in which a rolling tire struck another car.

According to Jay Police Department Det. Mike Mejia, a vehicle that was parked in a driveway in North Jay was struck by a rolling tire that fell off from a different vehicle traveling northbound past the residence. The tire struck the rear end of the parked car, causing damage, and the motorist that lost the tire didn’t stop at the scene.

Mejia said that the incident occurred approximately between 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Anyone who witnessed or has information about this incident is being asked to contact Jay police department at 897-6766.

  1. Wow. Good thing it didn’t hit a moving vehicle/pedestrian/or somebody in their yard. I’m no mechanic but I’m guessing it must’ve fallen out of the back of pickup/trailer or something for them not to notice? Glad nobody was hurt.

  2. Thats off a trailer. Hub and brake drum still attached. Any fresh marks on the road? If it was single axle I bet they were disappointed by the time they stopped! Tandem axle would have kept it from hitting the ground, but who knows how long it would hold up…..

  3. Yeah, must have been a duel axle trailer. That brake drum is way full of grease too…. no stopping that puppy! Perhaps even a homemade trailer…
