CANTON – State and local law enforcement personnel are currently searching a 5-acre plot of land located off Route 108 today, in relation to a nearly three-decade-old missing persons case.

According to Maine Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland, the land is being searched by Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Oxford County and Franklin County Sheriff’s Office personnel for anything relating to Kimberly Moreau.

On May 10, 1986, 17-year-old Moreau left home to attend a dance and was never seen again. Investigators have previously said that Moreau was last seen in Jay at about midnight.

Today, McCausland said that law enforcement was searching the property with ground-penetrating radar equipment borrowed from the University of Maine system and cadaver dogs. The search may last through tomorrow, McCausland said.

  1. I hope they find what they are looking for. This poor family deserves some closure. Breaks my heart.

  2. I often thought about kim now and then, she will never be forgotten and who ever did this……just remember The Truth Will Set You Free!

  3. Such a sad situation. For her family’s sake I pray they find her and solve the case.

  4. We have discussed this tragedy many times as we see that Kimberly’s Dad has put up new copies of her picture. We’ve prayed over and over that she would be found and her Dad can finally have closure. He has never given up keeping her memory alive and on the minds of the public. Prayers for those searching and the family that this case can be solved.

  5. I agree with all the above comments but It took authorities 30 years to figure out that they should do a thorough search of their prime suspect’s property?

  6. Why wasn’t this area searched 30 years ago? This poor family and their unanswered questions! I hope they find what they need for closure!!

  7. According to other media sources this property wasn’t owned by the man in question or his family back when Kim disappeared.

  8. I am hoping they will do all of the cold cases here in Maine. Especially since they have those probes now.

  9. A reason to search old locations is that they now can use ground penetrating radar which did not exist 30 years ago. New tools.

  10. Also, property changes hands and new owners consent to the search which means no need for probable cause and a warrant.

The property may be have searched before the new radar technology was available but the search was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

I would like to see them take another look at the Judy Hand case. Dennis Pike worked that case for decades and never gave up on it. I would love to see it solved for the family and for Dennis before his time on earth is done.

  11. I hope they have money to solve everyone’s missing family and friends,I would like to no the truth about my brother John hall and girlfriend and daughter, and friend, went through ice in jeep on Parker pd Fayette m.e. 25years ago.also hope they find the girl she been gone long time. Keep are fingers crossed.

  12. I talked to Judy’s mom a few years ago and she was so mad they didn’t find the killer but there have been a few really good suspects, unfortunately Mrs. Hand has passed away. No one should go to their grave without knowing where there children are.

  13. I hope this leads to answers regarding Kim. I also have followed Judith Hand case. People “around” tend to say it was this person or that person or so and so who did it is dead now etc. The old news papers at the time of Judy’s murder quoted police as saying they were certain people in the community had information but that there was an unfortunate and long standing tradition of not talking because people don’t want to be known as the one who spilled the beans…..
