Local departments adding holiday patrols with grant

1 min read

WILTON – Three local police departments have applied for a state-administered grant aimed at holiday enforcement of operating under the influence laws, to fund checkpoints and additional patrols this season.

Farmington, Wilton and Rangeley are participating in the State Bureau of Highway Safety’s Holiday OUI Enforcement program, which provides access to federal highway safety funding for additional patrols during the holiday season.

In Wilton, Chief Heidi Wilcox said that the WPD investigated eight accidents and one fatality in 2010 which involved alcohol. Office Timothy Coombs applied for the funds for the department, Wilcox said, adding the money would be used for extra patrols and two checkpoints in December.

In Farmington, Sgt. Michael Adcock said that the Farmington Police Department had been awarded a grant to do “numerous, saturated OUI patrols” during the holiday season. The department received $1,731 to pay for additional patrol work.

Rangeley Police Department is also participating in the program.

  1. We just wanted to thank you folks for all that you do every day, but most of all during the holidays. When you takes time away from you own families, to protect and serve. Thank you again………Bless you all and Happy Holidays!!

  2. Maybe one of your checkpoints should be outside the bars (especially Front Street). I always see people coming out of there well over the legal limit and swerving and driving dangerously. I’ve had at least 3 very close calls with drunk drivers coming out of that place.

  3. Ah Yes Indeed,,One of the great Mysteries of our free society is our “CIVAL RIGHTS”,,

Because of this “RIGHT”,,,a legal thing called “Entrapment” was born…….
Because of this “RIGHT”,,, THOUSANDS of INNOCENT LIVES are lost every year.
Because of this “RIGHT”,,, Police cannot do the “”””RIGHT THING””” and stop them at the Bar Parking Lot…
That would be entrapment and would violate the drunk drivers “CIVAL RIGHTS”…

Because of this “RIGHT”,,,,I want to flatten everybodies tires in the bar parking lot tonite(before they drive drunk),,,,,,,,,
BUT I WONT (even though it might save a life),,,cause “That” could get me arrested before I left the parking lot…(ODD ISN’T IT?)…
(would be humorous to watch em all trying to change the tires though,,,,wouldn’t it??? HAHA).

I LOVE OUR DEMOCRACY, our CIVIL RIGHTS and OUR FREEDOM,,,,,,,
BUT SOME THINGS (although LEGAL),,,DONT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALL..

And dont waste your INK lecturing me about WHY we need CIVIL RIGHTS,,
    “I GET THAT”,,
BUT SOME OF IT GOES WAYYY TOO FARRR! and ROBS INNOCENT FOLKS of The RIGHT TO BE SAFE from “””THE LOSERS with LAWYERS””””
