AVON – A driver was injured and a home on Route 4 damaged after a tractor trailer truck rolled, spilled its full load of logs onto the road with some crashing through the front of the house early Wednesday morning.
According to Sheriff Scott Nichols, Steven Boyd Jr., 27, of Phillips, was operating a Thorndike-owned truck northbound on Route 4 “and failed to negotiate a sharp turn causing the entire unit to overturn spilling its contents onto the road,” he said. Some of the logs crashed through the front of the home and entered the structure.
The driver was injured and transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Boyd had been treated and released.
Phillips Fire Department units assisted at the scene and Strong Fire Department rerouted northbound traffic via Route 149.
Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Morgan is investigating the incident. Excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, Morgan said.
The angels were watching over this family. I am glad that everyone is alright.
Are they getting paid by the hour or by the ton ?
Glad to hear Steven is alright!
Excessive speed?? Just because of long skid marks? He was loaded it takes a lot to stop a loaded log truck. Witnesses & the driver heard a load noise before the load went. The same witness said the driver could not have been speeding because he was closing in on the truck before the accident. I say investigate the noise & you will find the cause of the accident. Very thankful everyone lived through this accident.
Glad you are alright Steve! The truck is replaceable!!
Glad that everyone is ok, that nobody rushed to the window to see what was happening when the truck began to go over! Speed being a factor in this case or not, I hope this is a reminder to all of our other local truckers to be especially careful and to watch their load and their speed. We’re all hoping for a swift recovery for the driver and swift repairs for the homeowners.
