INDUSTRY – Two men riding an all-terrain vehicle on the Greenwood Brook Road, off Brahmer Road, resulted in a non-life threatening injury to the passenger Sunday morning.

Ryan Murray of Lowell, Mass., 23, was riding as a passenger on an ATV driven by Justin Messina of Tewksbury, Mass., 22, “when Messina lost control of the vehicle, hit an embankment and the ATV flipped over,” according to Edie Smith, spokeswoman for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. The crash was reported at 9:42 a.m.

Messina was thrown clear from the ATV while Murray was pinned underneath. Messina was able to roll the ATV off Murray, who was then transported by NorthStar Emergency Medical Services to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

Initial reports were that Murray has a possible fracture to his left leg and was conscious and talking with medical personnel at the scene.

Both men were wearing helmets and the accident is being attributed to excessive speed, Smith said. The accident occurred just down the road from Messina’s grandparent’s house in Industry.

Responding to the accident were Maine Game Wardens Kris MacCabe and Kim Bates.

  1. Glad these young fellas are ok.
But it’s comical how whether or not someone was wearing a helmet is “usually” included in these reports,,
Probably had nothing to do with the condition they ended up in one way or another,,,
Did they have on Blue underwear??? Maybe That’s relevant…..

I HAVE A QUESTION,,,,,,,,,,,,, (If the Helmet “thingy” is REALLY ABOUT SAFETY”)
People die EVERYDAY from head injuries in CARS,,,,,,
***Why Not make Helmets Mandatory in Cars (even if it saves ONE LIFE,,,,,,,,,,,,,Right????)***
I Think I read abouot someone FALLING OUT OF BED and sustaining a serious head injury too,,,,,,,,,
Another opportunity to SAVE SOMEONE,,,,””NEW HELMET LAW IN BED” !!!!!

Some folks are genuinely concerned and favor helmet laws,,,,Good for them and thanks.
But too much of this Hoopla has nothing to do with safety and FACTS,,,,

Fact is,,,,,,,,,,,,,we dont have to wear them,,,,Thank You.

  2. O.K. Is this an approved ATV trail?NO!!!Going to the trail system?NO!!! Stay off the roads and slow down.Remember all these laws leach up here for southern Maine and further south! Amazing how all the ATV clubs do so many wonderful things and never make the papers. But…… an ATV accident always makes the papers.
