FARMINGTON – Campus police are investigating the assault of a University of Maine at Farmington student on Sunday.

UMF Public Safety Chief Brock E. Caton said a student was physically assaulted behind UMF’s Education Center building, located at the corner of High Street and Lincoln streets.

“The student was able to repel the attack and run to safety in a nearby residence hall. The student sustained minor injuries, but did not require medical attention,” Caton said in a press release.

The assailant is described as a white male, medium build, approximately 5-foot, 7 inches to 5-foot, 9 inches tall and wearing a baseball cap backwards.

Caton said a warning went out to the UMF campus community today in accordance with requirements of the federal Clery Act after it was determined that the victim did not know their attacker.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the UMF Department of Public Safety office at 207-778-7400.

  1. I hope they catch this fool and hang him from the yardarm as an example to any other idiot contemplating this behavior,

  2. The article carefully avoids telling us if the victim was maie or female, referring to the victim with “their.” Why?

  3. My daughter lives on that campus as a freshman and now I am liking her having to park behind hippic field and walk up abbot hill in the dark even less. Hope Campus security is really paying attention.

  4. Bill,

Would it matter any if it were a male or a female? An assault is an assault no matter the gender.

  5. The term “assault” is vague. There are can be big differences between assault of a male and of a female.
