  1. Why not confront shoppers as they are leaving the stores rather than relying on the public’s help after the fact?

  2. If you are not 100% sure they are a thief you risk insulting and aggravating an innocent customer, presumably losing their business – as well as the business of their family and friends. I would assume time was needed to check inventory.

There probably isn’t a huge danger in confronting someone BUT it is not worth the risk. The police are trained and equipped to handle a potentially dangerous person, it is completely appropriate to call them for assistance.

  3. 9 times out of 10 they ignore the buzzer and wait until the security footage is reviewed later. I can’t count the times I’ve been to the Wal-Mart in Farmington or Waterville and had the buzzer go off due to a poorly scanned item. I stop, look back and get waved at without so much as a receipt and item check.

  4. I see nothing wrong with asking for the public’s help, you might have a change of mind if it were your store. Sounds like this person has a problem.

  5. I the store manager would like to give big thanks to Farmington Police department and those who helped identified the woman. Our surveillance system captured the entire event. The helicopter is now in evidence. Added security cameras are now paying off.
