RSU 73 board to discuss budget Monday evening
LIVERMORE FALLS - A RSU 73 special board meeting to discuss the 2012-2013 budget meeting has been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. in the Cedar Street boardroom.
The school board will discuss and possibly take action on the budget, which is expected to go before voters for the third time later this month. The board is also expected to call and approve warrants for a public budget meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Spruce Mountain Middle School. Using this schedule, the validation referendum would be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21 in Livermore, Livermore Falls and Jay.
Originally, the school board intended to hold the budget discussion on Tuesday and set the warrants Thursday. However, that would not have allowed for the required seven days between approving the warrants and the budget meeting. The district hopes to hold the validation vote on Aug. 21, the earliest it can be held given the failed referendum vote on July 21.
On July 21, residents in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls voted to not validate the results of the July 10 budget meeting, where attendees passed the $18.73 million budget proposed by the school board and administration. That budget was the second defeated at referendum, with residents voting against validating the first budget on June 12. A total of $282,000 has been cut out the original, $19 million budget proposed by the school board at the beginning of June.
