WILTON – Police have arrested a South Paris woman after she allegedly stole a pocketbook from a vehicle at Kineowatha Park earlier this month.

Brittany Knight, 25 of South Paris, has been charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, a Class C felony. She was arrested yesterday in relation to a crime which allegedly occurred on July 20.

According to Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox, Knight removed a white leather pocketbook from a vehicle parked at Kineowatha Park. A debit card and some cash were taken in the burglary.

While investigating the crime, Wilcox said, WPD Officer Ethan Keyes determined that the stolen debit card had been utilized and viewed surveillance footage to identify the person using the card. Knight was arrested Sunday without incident.

Knight was later released on $500 cash bail. Her next scheduled court date is Sept. 29.

  1. @Captain Planet – Not to say the victim didn’t leave her car door unlocked; however, the same crime happened to me and they broke my window just to steal my purse. Too many times I heard from people, “Should’ve just left your door unlocked then you wouldn’t be paying for a new pocketbook AND a new window”. Hopefully, the lesson learned was that you can’t leave ANYTHING in view…even when the surroundings seem “safe”.
    Good police work, Officer Keyes!

  2. Great police work. Can’t state she used any cards just that someone did. Also that a Wilton police Heidi SAYS she took it. So you just act on someone’s hearsay that didn’t even witness any crime? Than its she was allegedly arrested for a crime!

  3. Her car was locked Captain Planet….Her window was down about 3 inches , she used something to get the string of her pruse out through the window. So before shooting off at the mouth get the facts..The suspect also had the nerve to mail victim back her drivers license in the mail.. Great work Wilton PD

  4. Amy Ward: Who leaves their pocket book in plain sight in a car? Locked or not?

  5. A person should be able to leave their pocketbook anywhere they like. If it doesn’t belong to you, keep your thieving paws off from it!

  6. Maineiac – I’m not certain where SHE left her pocketbook, but MY pocketbook wasn’t left “in plain sight”. It was tucked under my front passenger seat…with only the bottom of the bag flush with the seat. I “assumed” that that was “good enough”…and wrongly “assumed” that my surroundings were “safer” than they were. I’m of the opinion that if something is in MY LOCKED vehicle then that means it clearly belongs TO ME. I shouldn’t have to hide everything because some P.O.S. thinks they’re entitled to it.

  7. Ayup Adam they should, but that’s not the world we are living in now, is it.

  8. Note to the person who had doubts “who used the cards”, I believe the article noted that WPD used surveillance footage to determine who it was. Too bad for her – if convicted, she will be a felon. She made a bad choice. I was walking by a car in a parking lot the other day and the passenger window was wide open, and there was a wallet sitting on the seat. I didn’t take that!
    Good work Wilton PD!

  9. Allegedly means that there is no proof this women did this crime. They based everything in this article on assumption. The video footage does not even say she was the one that did it. You all need to read the dictionary.

  10. I would like to say even if someone was to use the card and I can’t say this woman did because it doesn’t clearly state that fact in the article does not mean that she was the one responsible for taking the purse or anything else in it and this article has a lot missing pieces in it and a lot of assuming and yet no factual evidence.

  11. Muscles, continue reading that dictionary of yours. Allegedly means there is no evidence OR guilt has yet to be decided in court.
