FARMINGTON – Street closings on or around High Street have been announced for the next two Saturdays, to accommodate the Fiddlehead Festival and the University of Maine at Farmington commencement ceremony.

The 5th annual Fiddlehead Festival is Saturday, May 7. A celebration of locally-grown and foraged food, the festival will result in the closure of Academy Street from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. to vehicle traffic. The event in question is held outside the Emery Community Arts Center.

On Saturday, May 14, UMF will celebrate the 2016 commencement ceremony. This will impact High Street, from Middle to Maple Avenue, and all of South Street from 9:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. Southbound traffic will not be permitted on High Street during this time, but Farmington residents residing on side streets between Maple and Lake Avenues will be permitted through the barricade area from the Maple Avenue side of High Street. Drivers are asked to advise the UMF officers conducting the traffic detail if this is the case.

“Increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic are expected all day so use caution when traveling throughout downtown Farmington on this day,” UMF Director of Public Safety and Chief Brock Caton said in an announcement released Wednesday.

If the weather is bad on May 14, the commencement ceremony will be held in the UMF Fitness and Recreation Center on Quebec Street.
