WILTON – A 29-year-old man was arrested twice on Saturday in connection with a domestic violence assault charge.

Robert McDowell of Jay, was arrested by Wilton Police Department Sgt. Chad Abbott at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday after police received the report that he assaulted his partner. McDowell was transported to the Franklin County Detention Center and was later released on $500 cash bail.

According to Police Chief Heidi Wilcox, McDowell returned to the residence Saturday evening after he was released from jail.

McDowell was arrested again on Saturday at 11 p.m. by Abbott and charged with violating a condition of release, in which he was to have no contact with the victim. A court date of April 28 was scheduled.

In an unrelated incident, a 37-year-old woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on Friday.

Shannon Dupree of Wilton reportedly “used a chunk of firewood” to hit an acquaintance on the head, Wilcox said. The incident was reported at 12:21 p.m. on Friday. The victim was treated at Franklin Memorial Hospital for injuries.

The assault charge was aggravated, Wilcox said, due to the alleged use of a dangerous weapon, namely a piece of firewood.

  1. What’s the record? Twice in 5 hours is setting the bar pretty high. Good job Sgt. Abbott.
