MERCER – State Police say an 18-year-old Chesterville woman was seriously injured when her car crossed the center line and collided with a loaded logging truck on Route 2 in Mercer Tuesday morning.

Troopers said Desiree Therrien was flown by Lifeflight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Her injuries are described as non-life threatening.

Sgt. Vicki Gardner said Therrien’s 1995 Pontiac Grand Am veered into the path of an 18 wheeler driven by Patrick Phelps, 24, of Baileyville. Phelps was not injured. He was hauling a load of pulp wood to the paper mill in Jay. The truck is owned by Murray Laplante Logging.

Therrien’s car was demolished in the crash and several thousand dollars in damage was sustained to the big rig. Route 2 was closed at the crash site for several hours and traffic was detoured on side roads. Route 2 was re-opened after 3:30 p.m.
