WILTON – A local man was arrested twice on Sunday, after he allegedly returned from Franklin County Detention Center and illegally drove his vehicle in front of a police officer.

Jason Masterson, 39, of Wilton, was arrested on a charge of domestic violence assault just after midnight on Sunday, Nov. 23. Later that day, he was arrested on a charge of operating after suspension and issued a summons for driving with an expired license.

According to Wilton Police Chief Heidi Wilcox, police responded to a residence Sunday morning and arrested Masterson, after the alleged victim told Sgt. Chad Abbott that Masterson had spat on her and “flicked” her face, leaving a mark. Masterson was transported to Franklin County Detention Center on a charge of domestic violence assault.

Later that morning, Wilcox said, Masterson was released on $300 bail and driven by a friend to the alleged victim’s residence to retrieve some belongings. Wilton Police Department had stationed a police officer, Courtney Krause, at the residence while Masterson gathered his things, as is standard procedure.

While there, Wilcox said, Krause observed Masterson load his things into his vehicle and drive away. Upon checking the status of Masterson’s license, Krause arrested him on a charge of operating after suspension. A summons was also issued for misdemeanor driving with an expired license, 90 days after the expiration had occurred.

Masterson was once again transported to jail and later released on $3,000 unsecured bail. His next scheduled court appearance is Dec. 23.

  1. I’m a little confused. $300 bail for “domestic violence assault”, but 10X that ($3,000) for driving on a suspended license. Was the bail more because it was his second offense? Or is driving on a suspended license 10 times worse than domestic violence?

  2. Nate, the $3,000.00 was “unsecured”, meaning all he had to pay to get out of jail was the $60 bail commissioner fee. If he doesn’t show up to his court date, then he will owe $3,000.00.
