WILTON – The post office located at 454 Main Street was reopened at 1 p.m. today after the building “has been cleared safe for re-entry,” according to a U.S Postal Service spokeswoman.
Melissa Lohnes of corporate communications for USPS, said the retail and box lobby opened at 1 p.m. on Friday and “normal operations will resume tomorrow,” she said.
On Wednesday, Wilton post office was closed after “structural issues relating to the roof” resulted in USPS officials declaring the office “no longer safe” for occupancy. During the closure, customers were directed to pick up mail at the Jay post office, located at 158 Main Street in Jay.
After the building was inspected, it was deemed safe and reopened Friday afternoon.
Glad to hear it. It could have been worse. At least no one was hurt. Now all is well. I thank all the clerks for their patience in putting up with all the rants and raves by those with no understanding. Life goes on.
Excellent news.
Glad this was resolved quickly. My heart will always be at the Wilton post office.
Can you say,”Chinese firedrill”?
Having retired from this office, and loving my job there, I too, must say “KUDOS” to the clerks.
Glad everyone is safe and that the Post Office is once again open!
