FARMINGTON – A collision on the Wilton Road this afternoon resulted in a Dixfield woman being transported to the hospital, after police say her vehicle was struck from behind.

According to Farmington Police Department Det. Darin Gilbert, both involved vehicles were westbound toward Wilton on the Wilton Road near Splash N Dash Car Wash when a vehicle stopped to turn at approximately 12:38 p.m. The first of the involved vehicles, a 2016 Kia Sorento, stopped at the end of the line but the second, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, did not.

Operating the Sorento was Candy Welch, 46 of Dixfield, with one passenger, Brady Welch, 22 of Dixfield. In the Silverado was Adam Lewia, 23 of Wilton.

Candy Welch complained of shoulder and neck pain and was transported via NorthStar EMS to Franklin Memorial Hospital. Brady Welch had some pain in a leg, Gilbert said, but was not transported.

Both vehicles are believed to be total losses, according to Gilbert.

Lewia was charged with failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, a traffic infraction. According to Gilbert, the citation stems from Lewia being unable to stop before rear-ending the next vehicle, particularly given that two other vehicles were able to stop in time.

In addition to NorthStar and FPD, Farmington Fire Rescue responded for traffic control and to assist with the clean up. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

  1. this stretch of wilton rd between hannaford & walmart just keeps on giving.. is there a traffic engineer out there..? anybody?

  2. I think that the tail gating is out of hand. How can you be inches off someone’s bumper and be able to stop quickly without hitting the car in front of you?
