FARMINGTON – Alberta K. Carter, 79, of Jay, passed peacefully on Thursday morning, April 17, 2014 at Franklin Memorial Hospital, with family at her side.

She was born on March of 1935, in Dixfield, the daughter of Bruce and Ethel (Fuller) Kittredge. She was a graduate of Jay High School and in October of 1954 married Raymond “Junior” Carter at the home of her folks on the Macomber Hill Road in Jay.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she also was employed at Norwock Shoe and for 25 years did eyeletting in the stitching department of G. H. Bass Shoe.

She will lovingly be remembered as a clear-spoken woman who always spoke her mind. She enjoyed country music, flower gardening, feeding the birds, cheering for the Boston Celtics and sharing her household with her beloved dog, “Teddy.”  She and her husband enjoyed dancing in their youth and after their children were grown, revisited that favorite pastime.

She is loved by her husband of over 59 years, Junior, of Jay; their three children: Kathleen Porter and her husband, Randy of East Jay; Kenneth Carter and his wife, Beverly of Houston, Texas and Kristeen Merchant and her husband, James “Jim,” of Chesterville; one brother, Glendon Kittredge of Turner; seven grandchildren: Susan Lemieux, Elizabeth Ryan, Stacy Couture, Raymond Merchant, Jonathan Carter, Shelly Merchant and Andrew Carter; five great-grandchildren: Isaiah Ryan, Kyle Couture, Levi Merchant, Zoe Ryan and Trevor Couture.

She was predeceased by twins, Steven and Sharon Carter who passed in 1956 and two brothers: “Tiny” and “Bobby” Kittredge.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Wiles Remembrance Center, 136 High St., Wilton, Monday 21 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the center Tuesday morning, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steven Bracy from the Living Waters Church officiating. Remembrance gifts may be given to the Franklin Cty. Animal Shelter 550 Industry Rd., Farmington, Me. 04938. Her memorial video may be viewed, and tributes and condolences may be shared, on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com. Entombment at the funeral home. Family committal services will be held later in the springtime at Lakeview Cemetery, Wilton.
