Azel Irving Campbell (1926-2012)

PHILLIPS - Azel Irving Campbell, 86, died on Sept. 6, 2012 at the Sandy River Center for Health Care in Farmington.

He was born on Jan. 3, 1926, in Phillips, the son of Clarence and Ezma (Springer) Campbell. He was educated in the schools of Phillips. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps being stationed in the South Pacific.

He married Gladys Brown on March 8, 1947 in Farmington and she died on Dec. 24, 1992. He was employed at the Forster Mfg. Co. In Strong for 21 years, retiring as a foreman. He was a member of the Prescott Fairbanks American Legion Post 64 in Phillips.

He enjoyed carpentry and working on his house.

He is survived by his step daughter, Lorraine Berry of Avon; his step son, Roland Coolong of Farmington; his special granddaughter, Dawn Coolong of Strong; his brother, Elwood Campbell of Kingfield; and many grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his step son Eugene and wife Geraldine Coolong.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Mile Hill Square Cemetery in Avon with Pastor Constance Maginnis officiating.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME.

  1. So sorry to hear Of Azels passing. I used to work with him at Forsters years ago....
    Dawn, you did an amazing job caring for your grandfather. He will be with you always!

  2. He will be missed. I spent some time with him while we watched the parade one year together and got to see a bit of his woodworking in his 'shop'. Hard working man who always amazed me. RIP Azel.
