ATHENS – Barbara Alice Beckstrom, 100, passed away June 2, 2016 at Tissue’s Country Estates.
She was born Feb. 19, 1916, in Chapman, the daughter of George L. and Gertrude (Pomroy) Hodgdon.
She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1934. On June 19, 1940, she married Richard Beckstrom and was employed for years at the Northern Maine Sanitorium (circa 1940) as a practical nurse. In the 1960s she worked in electronics at Air Research Corps in Los Angeles, California. Barb enjoyed horseback riding and she and Dick loved traveling and picnicking for years in California and later, when they moved to Oregon and Washington. They were especially fond of their Welsh Corgies, Josket and Hillary, their beloved “children”.
She lived with her niece, Naomi (Diane Hodgdon) Barthlemess and husband John for 1 year in Athens in 2010, then moved to Tissue’s Country Estates in Athens for her last 5 years. We are deeply grateful to the Tissue’s Staff and Hospice for their excellent, heartfelt care of her.
Barbara is survived by her niece, Naomi Barthlemess and husband John of Athens. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Beckstrom in 1997 and by her brother, Howard Hodgdon in 1981.
At the family’s request, there will be no visitation hours or funeral service.
After 100 years of life, she is young and beautiful and free again by the Grace of her Lord Jesus!
