SARANAC LAKE, NY – Benjamin Franklin Howatt, III, 78, of Saranac Lake, N.Y., died on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at the AMC-Uihlein Mercy Nursing Center.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1936, in Farmington,  a son of Benjamin and Ellen (Everett) Howatt, II.
Benjamin joined the Navy Reserve at the age of 18 and later attended and graduated from Clark University.

He had been employed as a college professor at Paul Smith’s College for over 20 years until his retirement. His favorite hobby was playing the guitar.

He is survived by a son, Benjamin F. Howatt, IV of North Carolina; a daughter, Jennifer Howatt of Ellsworth; a brother Jack Howatt of Farmington; and a nephew Jeffrey Howatt and his wife, Maria and their family of Farmington.

Public memorial graveside services with full military honors provided by Camp Keyes, Augusta, will be held Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Farmington. In keeping with Mr. Howatt’s wishes, those who desire may give remembrance gifts to the Franklin Cty. Animal Shelter 550 Industry Rd., Farmington, Me. 04938.

  1. I remember he came to a basketball game
    At Mt. Blue quite proud of the family saying how many boys in the family and needing some girls. It made me laugh. Great people I admire greatly.
