SKOWHEGAN – Cecile M. (Marquis) Belanger, 85, passed away Feb. 28, 2015 at Cedar Ridge Center.
She was born December 22, 1929 in St. John, the daughter of Denis and Anastasie (Soucy) Marquis.
She was educated in the Holy Rosary Convent in Frenchville, then came to Skowhegan at a very young age doing housekeeping for various families, and later met her future husband. She married Louis J. Belanger, Jr. on December 31, 1949. They had been married almost 54 years before he passed away in 2003.
Cecile was employed by the Norrwock Shoe Company and New Balance, retiring in July 1995. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, gardening, playing cards, and being with her family. She was a longtime member of the Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church.
She is survived by her five children, Duane Belanger and wife Beth of Berlin, New York; Luann Nordine and husband Dana of China Grove, North Carolina; Patty-Lou Serencha and husband Carl of Wasilla, Alaska; Dennis Belanger and wife Barbara of Maple Grove, Minnesota; Patrick Belanger and wife Kathy of Anchorage, Alaska; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Louie; four brothers, Joseph, Gerard, Leonard, and Louis; and her dear sister, Anne-Marie Michaud.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Cedar Ridge Center and Beacon Hospice for the care of their mom.
At Cecile’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Skowhegan at a later date at the convenience of the family.
