Delbert E. Ellis, Sr.

Delbert E. Ellis, Sr., passed away on Feb. 22, 2019 at his daughter’s home in Tennessee.

He was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Rangeley, Maine, the son of Thayer J. and Neola Bubier Ellis.

He graduated from Rangeley High School and was a veteran of World War II.

He worked hard as a self-employed carpenter and for the past 40 years taking care of his rental properties. He loved to bowl and dance and almost made it to his goal of “hitting 100.” He was still bowling and dancing after being diagnosed with cancer. We thought the doctors had it wrong as he outlived their prognosis by a good year and a half.

He was a master craftsman and built much of the furniture (chairs, cabinets, and stands) in his home in Rangeley. He was an expert with an axe, as he spent many hours trimming the trees in his woodlots so they would grow straighter and taller.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Delbert Jr (Duke) and Susy Ellis of St. George, Robert and Georgie Ellis of Crossville, Tenn., Rex and Judy Ellis of Avon, Maine, Susan and Ronny Jones of Philadelphia, Tenn. and Jerry and Jaime Ellis of Bristol, RI. He is also survived by two brothers, Brian and Kirk Ellis of Rangeley and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

We always felt bad for Dad as one of the boys was born on his birthday and for the next 18 years, he never got to have the kind of cake he wanted. We know he got tired of confetti cake with cherry frosting.

Now father, you can rest high on that mountain you loved to walk and trim the trees on.

Dad wanted no funeral services and we honor that request.
